Gillian Bird is Australia's Ambassador and Permanent Representative in the United Nations. Ms Bird was born in June 7, 1957, Adelaide. She graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours). Her political career began in 1980, where she worked in various roles such as the Departments of Foreign Affairs. She then attained the position of First Assistant Secretary, International Division, Department of the Prime Minister an Cabinet from 2002 - 2004. From 2004-2014 Ms Bird was Deputy Secretary of Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Additionally, in 2008-2013 served Australia as an Ambassador to the Association of Southern Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The Secretary General is a person who is named the leader of the United Nations. He or She has the power to highlight any threatening matters that may jeopardise the UN, and make the concluding decision about a matter that is being debated. They have the ultimate power, and yet are generally people of much integrity and moral values.
The current, and eighth Secretary General is Ban Ki-Moon. He was born on the 13th June, 1944 in Korea. Mr Ki-Moon grew up in a place of war, and ever since he was a young child, his aim in life was to enter a working role of public service. Throughout his adult years, Mr Ki-Moon has worked in multiple political roles including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He is the leader of the United Nations Secretariat, which is one of the most important roles in the UN. The Secretary General also acts as the defector spokesman and the head of the UN. |
